This site is the grounds of an old textile factory, which opened in 1938. The Culture Centre is an adaptive reuse of the factory building and now comprises a music conservatory, galleries, studios, museums and a library. It has been refaced in terracotta bricks to acknowledge its industrial origins and braced against earthquakes. The surrounding park has been cleared creating a welcome recreational space with appropriate amenities. The project will be completed by a new-build opera house, leading the Preservation Committee of Bursa to decree that the land may only be used for cultural, educational and recreational purposes and thus protecting it from future commercial development.
