The Yas Hotel, a 500-room complex, has become an architectural icon and cultural landmark for Abu Dhabi. Conceived to open with Formula 1 events, it is now used for conferences and important events such as the Clinton/Abbas meeting on 2 November 2009. It combines ancient customs of Islamic art and traditions with cutting-edge technologies and geometries associated with speed, movement and spectacle. Its Grid-Shell provides a veil over two hotel towers and a link bridge which passes above the Formula 1 track. The Grid-Shell, illuminated by an LED lighting system, connects and fuses the complex together whilst producing optical and spectral reflections.
