In the centre of Dushanbe, the park is adjacent to the opera house, one of the most significant historic buildings in the city. Originally the park was a small green area cut through with paths and dotted with traditional Central Asian plane trees and shrubs, but it had long fallen into a state of neglect. The reconstruction project included the laying of lawns and flower beds; the reconstruction of paths and alleyways; the building of playgrounds; and the demarcation of rest areas with fountains and cafes. No healthy plants were damaged during the works.
