Offering much-needed study opportunities for young people across southern Morocco, the Taroudant faculty complex draws inspiration from the region’s architectural heritage, including kasbahs and riads. At its heart, a series of gardens on a north–south axis allows natural ventilation for the flanking buildings, which are closed to east and west to protect from the summer sun. Spatial dynamism is created by the combination of low, massive, ochre-rendered buildings with airy walkways and intimate outdoor spaces framing views of the surrounding landscape. The simple forms and reinforced concrete construction are designed for earthquake resistance. Local materials are favoured for detailing, such as terrazzo flooring and some solid stone.
