A swimming pool between the pilotis supporting the family home separates an informal Japanese garden from a contemporary take on a traditional Persian garden. The latter’s design is based around a strong east-west axis with short cross-axes defining terraced levels. A waterfall at the top of the main axis feeds two canals either side, leading on to an elongated waterfall filling a reflecting pool. A further axis parallel to the main one descends to a sunken garden. Hammered and polished ‘gandomak’ marble, Indian slate and mountain rocks are used to lend definition and texture to the various areas.
