1959-62 Survey

Considered to be the tomb of Zafar Khān. Located south of Tughluqābād Fort, in one corner of the small fortress surrounding the structure known as the Tomb of Ghayāth al-Dīn Tughluq. Grid ref. J-13

This tomb can be found inside the north bastion of a small fortress; it is a domed structure with an octagonal plan (each external side measuring 3.3 m) and built on a plinth. Red sandstone is used for wall surfaces and the interior of the dome, while the exterior of the dome is covered in white marble, a color scheme corresponding with that of the tomb said to be Ghayāth al-Dīn Tughluq's. There are two small tombstones inside. On the lintel over the south entrance, there are inscriptions in three places with the names of Ghayāth al-Dīn Tughluq Shāh and one Zafar Khān. Not much is known about the life of Zafar Khān, but judging from the look and content of the inscriptions, it can perhaps be believed that this tomb was built for him under the orders of Sultan Ghayāth al-Dīn. [平面]城砦へと伸びる桟橋の入口北西のボルジュを占める。8角形ボルジュの中央に8角形基壇があり、その基壇を8つのアーチが囲み、8つのピアにドームがのる。基壇内に墓石が置かれ、2重のアーチのエクストラドスには石彫りのインスクリプションが施される。周廊は外へ向かい傾斜する平天井で、墓室側のアーチのエクストラドスにも、石彫インスクリプションがある。城砦周廊から2つの入口があり、一方は2本の柱を立て矩形の小室とする。

なお、西のボルジュにはドーム部は未完成ながら同様な8角形周廊部があり、多柱室の前室をもつ。ただし周廊の外形は円形である。形態的に類似しているため、墓室を意図していたと思われる。

[Plan] It occupies the borj northwest of the entrance to the pier leading to the fort.
