Al-Faqih Mosque Restoration
‘Aynāt, Yemen

Following the floods of 2009, funding was approved for the restoration of the Mosque, which was originally built in the 13th century and renewed in the 20th century. Conservation work included strengthening the structure at critical junctures through traditional methods used to stabilise damaged walls and ceilings. Decayed elements were replaced and 3-steel pipes surgically inserted where necessary to reinforce the structure. Subsequently, damaged and worn-out layers of mud plaster were stripped and new courses of mud render, lime plaster and wash were applied to the exterior and interior.
