In his capacity as architect for the Service des Antiquités
from 1932 to 1936, and consulting architect to the Syrian government from 1932
1939, Michel Écochard and his team worked on a series of restoration projects
at important archaeological sites such as Qal’at Sim’an (Simeon Stylites), the
Temple of Bel, Qal’at Jabbar, Palmyra and locations along the Euphrates.
